Expectorant and mucolytic.
The medication has mucolytic (secretolytic) and expectorant characteristics. The mucolytic effect is related to the depolymerization and liquefaction of mucoprotein and mucopolysaccharide fibers. Bromhexine does have a weak antitussive impact.
Bromhexine is used to treat bronchopulmonary diseases characterized by increased viscosity of sputum (bronchial asthma, obstructive bronchitis,cystic fibrosis, tuberculosis, pneumonia, tracheobronchitis, bronchiectasis, emphysema, pneumoconiosis), chest injuries, and the pre- and postoperative period.
